Duties & Responsibilities of the Sandusky County Sanitary Engineers:

The Sandusky County Sanitary Engineer’s office was created by the Board of County Commissioners to assist the Board in performing its duties pursuant to Chapter 6103 (County Water Supply Systems) and Chapter 6117 (County Sewerage Systems) of the Ohio Revised Code. The Sanitary Engineer’s office also performs other duties and services in relation to sanitary and environmental concerns.

The Sanitary Engineer’s office is governed by Federal and State regulations promulgated by the United States and Ohio Environmental Protection Agencies and through the Board of County Commissioners. 

In the area of Water Supply, the Sanitary Engineer’s office presently operates and maintains a treatment facility, which serves the Shorewood subdivision. It also provides technical supervision to other entities contracted with the County. 

In the area of Wastewater Treatment, the Sanitary Engineer’s office presently operates and maintains three (3) Sewer Districts (Sewer District #1, General Sewer District and Sandusky Township Regional Sewer District).   It also provides technical supervision to other entities contracted with the County.
